All Foods Fit
I have been a practicing dietitian for over 8 years and in that time have seen many different clients from many different cities. They all come to me because something isn’t working. Maybe they have tried so many diets and they are on their last straw. Maybe they were just diagnosed with diabetes or Celiac disease and they need some guidance. Or maybe they have struggled all their life with food and are wanting to have a better relationship with it. No matter what the reason is, the message is always the same, they want to be healthier. Healthier means something different to everyone and my role as a practitioner is to get to the bottom of what that meaning is and help them achieve it.
I do know the one thing healthier is not, and that is restriction. My food philosophy is that all foods fit. You can achieve your health and wellness goals and still eat your favorite foods. I always joke with my clients, saying “I’m not going to tell you what you can’t eat, because you are going to leave this session and go eat exactly that.” There is truth to that, when you deprive your body of something, many times that is all you can think of. Why put yourself through that? Instead, give yourself that taste of that chocolate cake, that pizza, those potato chips and really enjoy it. There is room for everyone in your life.
Not only do I teach this to my clients, but I also follow this philosophy myself. I have been on restrictive diets in the past and was miserable. Only when I started eating exactly what I wanted (ahem, I see you cheese curds) did I start living a fuller and more healthy life.
That is why I am starting this blog, to answer all those restrictive diets out there and hopefully show that you can live a happier and healthier life enjoying and appreciating ALL foods!
